California Title 24

Throughout California the Title 24 energy standards address the energy efficiency of new (and altered) homes and commercial buildings. Because energy efficiency reduces energy cost, increases reliability and availability of electricity, the standards are important and necessary for California’s energy future. Today, there is a new market evolving due to the shift in the lighting business model. Effective in 2005, the US Department of Energy adopted ASHRAR/IES 901.1-1999 model energy code as a minimum national standard requiring automatic shut-off of all lighting in commercial buildings greater than 5,000 sq. ft. in size, with few exceptions. California provides even stricter minimum standards in its 2005 Title 24 requiring daylighting controls in some spaces as well as commissioning for control systems. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 also requires all new commercial federal buildings to exceed Standard 90.1-2001 by 30%. The market need and demand is for ADVANCED LIGHTING CONTROL SYSTEMS which allow for the integration of devices into larger, more flexible systems. Advanced lighting control devices and systems can be used to reduce ongoing cost for the owner and thereby increase profitability and competitiveness.

A.S.F. Electric, Inc. is committed to making sure our field and office staff is updated in these changes.
